Il fait un
froid de canard!
Literally,
it means "It's a duck's cold"! or simply It's freezing. But why the
duck (le canard) is involved here! It comes from duck hunters (les chasseurs).
The hunting (la chasse) period lasts until January (Janvier), so hunters have
to wait for ducks to hunt them down in the cold weather.
And for the
coming week, we'll experience a freezing cold again. Hopefully, it's the last
one for this winter (l'hiver).
