French people celebrate the New Year (la nouvelle année) on New Year's eve (le réveillon du nouvel an) with friends or family. You can hear people shouting Bonne année! from their home and there are fireworks (des feux d'artifices) at midnight (à minuit). If you are in Paris, the fireworks are launched at the Tour Eiffel. Or you can go to the Avenue des Champs-Elysées where lots of people gather to do the countdown (le compte à rebours).
