Video: learn how to say the weather in French

Here is a video I published on Youtube to learn simple phrases about the weather.

30 Apr 2018

Proverbe: En avril ne te découvre pas d'un fil.

En avril ne te découvre pas d'un fil. Literaly, it means "In April, don't take off a thread". The saying means: don't remove your clothes too much when the weather is getting warmer because it can change quickly and become chilly.

It's so true today. It's only 6 degrees (degrés) in some parts of France after a heat wave (une vague de chaleur) a few days ago.

And usually, the saying is followed by "En mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît", i.e. "in May, do what you like".

grèves

If you plan to go to France, please check on the following link and calendar (calendrier) when the national rail (SNCF) plans to go on strike (faire la grève) from April to June. The dates are highlighted in pink.
Also, other public transports might be on strike the same days too.

The right to go on strike is written in the French Constitution (la constitution), so whenever civil servants (les fonctionnaires) are unhappy with a change, they go on strike and it could block the whole country.

Qu'est-ce que vous avez fait le week-end dernier?

Avec ma famille, nous nous sommes promenés (to go for a walk) le long du fleuve (along the river). Le temps était magnifique! De belles jonquilles (daffodil) jaunes ont fleuri. On se serait cru (we would think) au printemps s'il ne faisait pas un froid de canard. Click here to learn about this idiom.

#frenchidioms "Il fait un froid de canard"

Il fait un froid de canard!
Literally, it means "It's a duck's cold"! or simply It's freezing. But why the duck (le canard) is involved here! It comes from duck hunters (les chasseurs). The hunting (la chasse) period lasts until January (Janvier), so hunters have to wait for ducks to hunt them down in the cold weather.
And for the coming week, we'll experience a freezing cold again. Hopefully, it's the last one for this winter (l'hiver).

Actualités: la France sous la neige #neigeparis #neigefrance

Les deux tiers de la France se retrouve sous la neige. Et quand il neige, les transports sont paralysés: train en retard, bus annulés, embouteillages monstre... La région parisienne a d'ailleurs battu les records avec plus de 700 km d'embouteillages (ou de bouchons).

French idioms: "C'est un jeu d'enfants!"

"C'est un jeu d'enfants". The equivalent in English is "a piece of cake" or "easy peasy".
Literally, "it's child's play". Kids' plays are easily understood by anybody.

"Apprendre le français est un jeu d'enfants?
